There is no ‘us and them’ any more, it’s just us.
All of us.
The city of Birmingham is an ‘us’. A sprawling, living, breathing us. Public, private and civic worlds keep the city ticking. Artist-run spaces and cultural organisations ignite new ways of looking and celebrating the city’s rich history. Youth-led initiatives and start-up companies bring an incredible energy to us as the youngest city in Europe. From some of the largest global brands to world-class universities, we have sparkles of emerging talent in every direction, but how might we come together to build a better Birmingham, for the good of all of us?
Birmingham is in the middle of the most incredible renaissance; it’s palpable. With a renewed sense of promise in the air, how can we make sure this is something everyone feels the benefit of? How can we collectively pioneer bold new ideas for 21st century cities? Many hands will shape a future city we can be proud of - one that is fairer, more democratic and better serves more people than ever before.
Over the last 5 years the TEDxBrum community has kick started so many new connections, ideas, exciting projects and ventures across the city. We are more committed than ever to create the space for the most ambitious, inspired and bold pioneers to come together.
Last year TEDxBrum speakers Dominic Campbell, Merici Vinton, Indy Johar and others set out some of the core challenges of the 21st century; namely how we must organise ourselves for change. An intricate ecosystem now connects people together locally and globally in ways that stretch beyond our imagination. Different perspectives must collide in order to make change, coming together to reimagine the collaborations and shared strengths we need in order to go forward.
We are very excited to announce this year’s TEDxBrum theme #PowerOfUs and iconic city centre venue, the glorious Birmingham Town Hall.
Join us for an exciting day of talks, performances, food, and conversations on Saturday 11th June 2016. This year’s event is all about exploring the many elements and perspectives needed to make transformative change happen, to truly harness the #PowerOfUs.
